Sarah Hawkins - deaf photographer from Sacramento, California.
I have been involved with photography as a hobby for many years. In 2007, I turned it into a career with the encouragement of my family and friends. I just simply love it!
I see beauty in everything and I try to capture it with a camera. I use a Nikon D60/D-SLR, Fujifilm F480, a Fujifilm S5000, my phone camera, and once in awhile an old Olympus manual camera. I believe camera type has nothing to do with the quality of pictures. Rather it has to do with what I see and how I capture it. I love to see people's reactions to my photography, and the appreciation they show toward my work.
In November 2009 I started a non-profit photography project called 'Self Embrace Project'. The focus is on clients who lack self-esteem and/or self-confidence. I discovered that my photography sessions gave them a positive boost in their self-esteem and confidence. I created this project to help them to love themselves inside and outside through photos where they can SEE the differences in themselves.
I do all types of portraits, nature scenes, events, weddings, and action shots. I am always willing to try something new and challenging, allowing me to be creative while exploring the artistic side of photography.
I love to travel, shooting in Sacramento, San Diego, Chicago, New York and various other locations. Basically I have a camera and Im willing to travel.
Road Rage is the name I earned in roller derby while skating with the Sacred City Derby Girls as a blocker, and it does NOT reflect my driving style! I decided to use that as my company name and logo.
While I may be deaf, communication is never an issue between myself and my clients. If talking and lip reading does not work, we can write, type, or use any other means of communication. During a photo shoot, hand anf facial gestures work very well.
If you would like to set up a photo shoot, please contact me.
Thank you!
